Ng Yew Hock
Ng Yew Hock (黄有福) is a Singaporean artist whose practice bridges the worlds of abstract expressionism and traditional Chinese calligraphy. Holding a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts and Design from the University of Tasmania, he has developed a distinctive style that reflects both Western modernist influences and the spirit of Eastern ink traditions. His paintings are marked by gestural strokes, dynamic movement, and a lyrical quality that echoes the freedom of abstract expressionism while retaining the discipline and sensibility of calligraphy. Ng’s works embody a dialogue between cultures, blending spontaneity with control to create compositions that are both powerful and contemplative. He has exhibited widely, including a solo oil painting exhibition in Singapore in 2014, and his works have been presented alongside other significant local artists in exhibitions such as Singapore Art Treasures / The Shophouse Edition. His contributions to the Singapore art scene highlight the evolution of contemporary Asian abstraction, where tradition and modernity converge. By fusing two artistic languages, Ng continues to offer fresh perspectives on identity, form, and expression in Southeast Asian art.
